Submission by AgTech Ireland on the Draft Sixth Nitrates Action Programme
AgTech Ireland represents the innovators helping farmers and the wider food chain improve resource efficiency, environmental performance, regulatory compliance and social sustainability. We connect agtech companies delivering on-farm efficiency, environmental and digital transformation solutions with government, state agencies, research bodies and the public.
Given the central role of the Nitrates Action Programme (NAP) in protecting water quality and meeting Ireland’s EU obligations, AgTech Ireland welcomes the chance to contribute to the public consultation on the draft Sixth NAP.
Our submission emphasises three priorities:
- the essential role of agricultural technology in enabling farmers to meet NAP objectives;
- the need for targeted financial, taxation and other supports to drive adoption; and
- recommendations to ensure the NAP is implemented fairly, feasibly and with future needs in mind.
AgTech Ireland fully supports the goals of the NAP and believes that technology-enabled nutrient-management and water-protection systems will be critical to achieving national water-quality targets while sustaining the social license for higher stocking densities under a continued Nitrates Derogation.
